Breathtaking Experience

“Hold on to what is good, even if it’s a handful of earth. Hold on to what you believe, even if it’s a tree that stands by itself. Hold on to what you must do, even if it’s a long way from here. Hold on to your life, even if it’s easier to let go. Hold on to my hand, even if I’ve gone away from you.” —Pueblo Indian Prayer

For anyone experiencing loss this Christmas of any sort–loss of love, loss of job, loss of anticipated dreams, loss of a loved one–this Indian prayer is my hope for you. Hold on. Whatever point you are at, hold on. Whatever hurt is wounding you, hold on. Whatever dream is shattered, hold on. Love is near. In some way. Some how. In some breathtaking experience.

My son asked me today while Christmas shopping for a Secret Santa gift for his cousin, “Do you ever think I will have a good story to tell?”

“Absolutely,” I replied and then asked for clarification. “Jordan, what do you mean exactly?”

“A breathtaking experience…that people want to hear about.”

“Yes, I completely believe you will have a breathtaking story,” I told my child.  And even though I cannot see his future stories, I believe wholeheartedly good stories await us all.

Hold onto your breathtaking experiences ~ present and past. Let the holidays seep with memories and love. Your stories shape you and hold you.
