Give Thanks

Giving is so often thought of in terms of the things we give, but our greatest giving is of our time, and kindness, and even comfort for those who need it. We look on these gifts as unimportant – until we need them.” —Joyce Sequichie Hifler

Intangible gifts are complex concepts for children…sometimes for big people, too. Just like my kids concretely think “a treat” is a piece of candy (rather than a non-edible luxury such as an extra recess or going to a movie) the idea of gifts similarly has a set image of boxes and bows.

This holiday season I would love to introduce a lesson about gifts that mean more than items–patience, forgiveness, sharing, compassion, listening. Life long gifts that fill the heart, help the hurt and bring true hope.

Wishing you a blessed Thanksgiving ~ full of many true treats and heartfelt gifts!
