Yesterday Jordan picked up his toy police walkie talkie. Into the speaker with serious intent he called his dad. “Hi dad, are you there, dad? Are you in heaven, dad? This is Jordan.” This morning the daily contact was continued during breakfast, “Dad, This is Jordan. I am eating a banana, dad. Are you eating a banana?”
I watch Jordan and Maddi grow and realize that their father is a daily thought, a daily question, a daily part of our journey. Sometimes children can express their interest, their curiousity and their love better than an adult. They have no inibitions to limit their imagination or heart. They teach me that it is ok to bring Shawn into conversation, it is ok to miss him, it is ok to still express our love for him and most of all it is ok to remember.
