Sweet Dreams

Madelynn fell asleep in the car on the way home from church. When I looked back at her Jordan told me that she wasn’t really asleep. I looked again. Her eyes were closed but the lips held a slight smile. I carried her in the house pretending to go along with the act, curious how one can shake boots off their feet while sleeping!

She hugged me with her face nestled in my neck. I suppressed my laugh, waiting for the game to be over. Still she kept her eyes closed. Changing her into pajamas proved to be amusing as my Sleeping Beauty sat up and slid her arms into place. Her smile was slight, yet never disappearing. A couple sighs were feigned to prove exhaustion. She put on her pull-up as if sleep walking through the motions.

Once all set, she put her head in her pillow and never looked up.

I think this is what sweet dreams are made of…pretending, playing, dreaming, giggling, making up games and sharing them with someone else.
