Running Together

“I believe in love. I believe it transforms, transports, and transcends. I believe it fine-tunes goodness, solidifies strength, ripens resolve, eradicates rage, alleviates stress, and elevates empathy.”  -Lisa Kogan

My heart is full of gratitude to all those who participated in the 7th annual Officer Shawn Silvera 5K Memorial Run. We experienced a record-breaking year with over 600 participants at the event. As the run continues to grow, my passion to help others also grows with great resolve. Out of the ashes of pain, incredible potential waits to find its purpose. My purpose and personal goal strives to find 1000 runners for the 10th annual 5K run.  I believe great things will happen when we come together…run together.

The highlight of this year’s run was a mother who came to participate in her first 5K. She has an adult daughter who lost her husband last year in a car accident and was left to raise three small children. The mom specifically came to the run to meet one person–my husband. Steven was volunteering at the finish life when this woman approached him. She shared her story and told him that she had been following his wife Jennifer’s blog since Shawn was killed. She then said, “I hope my daughter finds a Steven someday.”

What a tremendous reminder that each of us plays a role in the lives of others. Each role is significant. We all relate in different ways. What tremendous hope there is when we share our lives with one another. Great things happen when we come together…when we run together.

I must thank Steven for running along side me in this life. I am honored to run with him. And I look forward to 2015, along with 1000 runners…when we all run together.
