A Wise Heart

“Teach us to number our days so that we
may get a heart of wisdom.” –Psalm 90:12

I want a wise heart. I don’t think I’m necessarily that great at seeking
wisdom. Not because I don’t want to be. Mainly I don’t think about it. I think
about keeping my kids safe. Teaching them to ride a bike. Saying bedtime
prayers and brushing our teeth more than once a day.

I think about what to make for dinner and breakfast and lunch, not necessarily
in that order but at some point each day. I’m the referee between sibling
rivalries and the only one they’ve got when it comes to both discipline and
devoted love.  And I wonder a lot that while I’m trying to be good at it
all if I’m really that good at any of it.

Just like my desire to be a good mom is important, so is the character trait of
seeking wisdom for my day, for my every action. In fact, a wise heart creates a
wise mother. And a wise mother knows this: our days are limited. Today is the
day to make a memorable memory with our kids–to touch them with our love and
nurture our little blessings.
