I have been reading Gulliver’s Travels to my kids and the main character Man Mountain is fascinating to Jordan. He’s empowered by the idea of giants and faraway lands.
Today Miss Janis asked him to assist her handy man Jorge, whom Jordan nick-named Josh, in making a mosaic patio table. Jordan is eager to help Josh make the dolphin design on the top of the table. Josh lets Jordan help glue the tile pieces. My son has to take a self-designated break to tell me the news. Bouncing from leg to leg like Tigger, he tells me, “Mom, I have my first job of work!”
At the end of the day Jordan comes back to our room with a sucker and can of diet A&W root beer. He explains that this is his payment for doing such a good job and I can already tell my son is convinced on the benefits of work and compensation.
Next thing he’ll be asking me–how to write a resume. His enthusiasm is what I study the most. Today is your day! is the message my son lives best.
