“The most basic and powerful way to connect to another person is to listen. Just listen. Perhaps the most important thing we ever give each other is our attention…A loving silence often has far more power to heal and to connect than the most well-intentioned words.” -Rachel Naomi Remen
This week marks the 20th anniversary of my father-in-law’s death. A man I never met. Yet through the telling of 100 stories, I feel I know him…at least a little bit. Listening introduced us. The memories my husband and mother-in-law share with me help me see a man of honor, hard work, and big dreams. Tragically killed on the 4th of July, his life still inspires. Strangers still remark on the way he touched their lives. His memory never forgotten. The stories of those memories heal.
